Process

I offer clinical-psychological counseling and treatment for adults and adolescents aged 17 and above.

Confidentiality

As a clinical psychologist, I am bound by statutory confidentiality obligations under the Psychology Act 2013 (§ 37). All session content is treated with strict confidentiality.

Initial Session

In the initial session we clarify your concerns, your expectations, and how we might proceed. Together we decide whether counseling or clinical-psychological treatment is the most appropriate course.

Duration and Frequency

Each session is 60 minutes: 50 minutes of conversation and 10 minutes for preparation, follow-up, documentation, and administrative tasks.

The frequency and number of sessions (e.g. weekly or biweekly) are agreed upon together.

  • Treatment/Therapy: typically 10–30 sessions; longer-term support is possible if needed.
  • Counseling: tailored to your individual needs and often shorter in duration.

Fees and Payment

  • New clients receive their first session at half price.
  • Payment by bank transfer (due within 14 days) or cash after the session.
  • Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged in full.

All services are exempt from VAT pursuant to § 6 para. 1 no. 19 (medical treatment) and § 6 para. 1 no. 27 (small-business regulation) of the Austrian VAT Act.

Health Insurance Coverage

Since January 2024, clinical-psychological treatment in Austria is a statutory health insurance benefit, on a par with medical care.

This means that costs can — depending on availability — be fully covered by health insurance (a Kassenplatz/contracted slot), or you may be entitled to a partial reimbursement for privately paid sessions.

Partial Reimbursement Without a Contracted Slot

Even without an assigned contracted slot, you can access clinical-psychological treatment privately and apply for partial cost reimbursement from your statutory health insurer (ÖGK, SVS, or BVAEB). In this case, you pay the fee upfront and then submit a claim for reimbursement. The amount varies by insurer and typically covers only a portion of the costs. Requirements may include a medical confirmation and prior approval from the insurer. Some private health insurance plans also cover the costs fully or partially, depending on your policy.

The specific rules (e.g. application process, approval, reimbursement amount) differ by insurer (ÖGK, SVS, BVAEB).

Access to Fully Funded Contracted Slots

Contracted slots are currently assigned not directly through the practice but exclusively via the central platform Psyhelp. Private appointments can be booked directly with me.

Fully funded contracted slots are allocated centrally through Psyhelp: https://www.psyhelp.at. The process works as follows:

  1. Registration: Register online and provide information about your concerns and preferences (e.g. location, setting).

  2. Clearing: A professional initial assessment helps determine the level and urgency of support needed.

  3. Referral: You will be matched with a suitable clinical psychologist near you as soon as a contracted slot becomes available.

  4. Contact: You will receive all relevant information by email and can arrange an initial appointment directly.
